Het bovenste rubber van de Waran is behoorlijk hard, met korte, kegelvormige en geribbelde noppen. De spons is zacht maar biedt een uitstekend ingebouwd speedlijmeffect. Waran is zeer snel en geschikt voor direct offensief spel aan tafel en voor choppen. Ondergesneden ballen hebben een gevaarlijke baan en het blokkeren van aanvallen is eenvoudig. Waran is ongevoelig voor spin, ideaal voor snelle aanvallen maar iets minder geschikt voor topspins vergeleken met Degu. Waran is geschikt voor spelers van alle niveaus en biedt veel controle. Hoewel er snellere of gevaarlijkere rubbers op de markt zijn, blijft Waran populair vanwege zijn eenvoudige controle en veelzijdigheid. Het lage gewicht van het rubber maakt het nog aantrekkelijker.
